This account is the admin account for all of Roleplay Lives. We post important announcements here. We post the RPL-wide events here. We run the Helpdesk here. All profiles are automatically made friends with this profile, because it is important to pay attention to some of the things that this profile does. You can unfriend it, but server settings will make it pop right back. That's because if you aren't friends with this profile, you will have no idea when there are issues with the site, when a new bug is found, when work is being done.... things that are damned important to know to have a profile here. We apologize for the inconvenience, but this is the best way to keep the entire site up to date with announcements.
Admin profiles are the same, because that setting to make the admin profile not able to be unfriended had to go via user group. However, we get it. Some people want to roleplay here but don't care to see the random admin posts from the people running the site. We're not for everyone, we understand that. But that leaves the burden on you. If you WANT to have Zeth, Kalypso, or Persephone off of your friends list, you MUST message us privately and simply ask us to remove you. We won't ask why. We may get slightly hurt feelings but we'll keep it to ourselves. This is only for our personal admin accounts though, we will not remove anyone from the RPL account, as again, that account runs the entire site.
Another note, we logged in to quite a few messages today of whether or not sharing links to other sites is a TOS violation as apparently it has been crazy today. Technically, it is not. We don't want to become dictators and demand that no one share any links besides ours, as frankly, we're not that kind of site. HOWEVER, the barrage of emails says that it is annoying members here. Just remember, please be respectful. If you want to share a link to your other roleplay profiles on other sites, use it as a "Hey, this is also where I roleplay too" type of thing. Our users work hard to make this site the best damn roleplaying site we can, and many are donators. They do get rather upset when they see people advertising other sites in their feeds, saying that they roleplay mostly at those other places. It's seen as highly disrespectful when you're here and those members are paying for your server space through donations and you don't respect it. While we understand the frustration, because we work hard on this place too, it also isn't against any TOS. Just remember that if you're constantly sharing other links instead of adding content here at RPL, your friends list WILL get annoyed and you likely will have less opportunities for roleplaying. We don't want anyone to be ostracized here, so we figured we'd make this post just so people could understand why they may be seeing people interacting less.
Another big complaint we see is people that are constantly changing names and changing profiles, closing groups, etc. If you want to keep your friends, they need to see some sort of stability. No one will write with someone if they know for a fact that all of their work will disappear in the next hissy fit, or the entire RP would have to be scrapped because of a change in character/bio/name. People can have multiple accounts here, and this is a good reason for it. If you want to interact with others, have people interested in writing with you, etc, you must show them that you appreciate and respect their time and energy they give. If you don't respect it and can destroy it so easily, that is telling people not to bother. Things take time to build up here. Being impatient just means you'll miss the best parts of getting to know others and people will try less with you. Not only do we hate seeing people upset for having no writing partners or having issues when the fix is an easy one on their end, do remember that every time you create, delete, create again, you are adding entries into each database the site has. We currently have over 300 databases. This contributes to the site crashing, when databases are overloaded with data that can't be connected to a profile anymore. We do our best to keep them repaired and optimized, but when groups and profiles are constantly deleted and remade over and over again, it DOES make a mess of the site's databases and affects the performance of the site for everyone else. Do think of the long term instead of the short term, and spend the time making friends, interacting, and building your character's life here on RPL.
DO remember to check out the Helpdesk. We've updated the tutorial, and it has tons of blogs explaining how every part of this site works for the most part. The tutorial even has screenshots for everyone. Lots of times people get insanely frustrated over things that we've already posted quick and easy solutions for in the Helpdesk blogs, and we hate that people have to wait until one of us is online to get those little annoyances sorted.http://www.roleplaylives.net/h...
ALSO We are seeing an increase in bounced emails when people send support tickets. Please remember that we respond to support tickets to the EMAIL you added in the Contact Us form. Please double and triple check it, we can't help if the emails bounce and can't get to you. Make sure when inviting friends, same thing, have them double check their emails. We're getting a lot asking for emails to be verified, and when we respond letting them know we've manually verified, that email bounces. So, something was "off" and not only will they not be able to get into their account, we can't even contact them to get the correct email sorted for them.
I do believe that's a nice round-up of things. Remember to scan the official Roleplay Lives account for any important notices or posts we've done.
We also do random questions so that people can respond, and if anyone is interested by their response they can send a friend request. It's a great way to see different active people on the site that you might not have ever ran into before, and to make new friends. Scroll down the RPL admin page to see any recent questions we've asked, post your responses and have fun seeing what other people comment. Don't be afraid to hit those "Send friend request" buttons!
Above all else, remember that this site is funded entirely by donations. If you enjoy the place and want it to stay around, please make sure to donate when/if you can. Every bit is appreciated and helps keep RPL alive! http://www.roleplaylives.net/f...
We have so loved growing with all of you, seeing the amazing writing in the feeds. We take special pride in seeing people find their perfect writing partners, in seeing families bloom here. We started RPL for the writing, and we're never happier than when we see all of the amazing storylines being created here on Roleplay Lives, the home of the best roleplaying on the net.
