You can sort your friends list by relationships. Click Friends, and then on the next page that opens, in the right hand side click “Edit Friends”. This will allow you to create a custom list. Type something like “Parents”, “Siblings”, “Mains”, whatever you like. Hovering over the friend's name in your Edit Friends page will now allow you to move them to different lists. Clicking the List name in the right hand column brings up everyone in that custom list. You can choose to change the order, edit the name, and to display on profile. This is great for sharing items with only a certain set of friends, or locking down posts to only be visible to those in that custom list.
In your Edit Profile section, you will also see a tab labeled "Relationships". Here, you can use HTML to link to friends, family, and people you'd like to mention as part of your life. It can be used for menage relationships, deceased family members, things of that nature. HTML formatting help is in a tutorial, located here.
The "cancel" on cover photos not canceling the photo is not a bug. The script is working as intended with this. To add a cover photo there are two separate queries. One, upload the photo. That finishes that query. 2, re-position the photo. If you hit cancel at this point, it ONLY cancels the re-positioning of the photo. It's already been uploaded, so it saves that. You would have to go to your Timeline photo album and delete the cover photo from there. Cover photo sizing has been found to be near perfect at 700x225 pixels.
EDITING YOUR PROFILE
Click the edit button on the Info section of your profile or Edit Profile in the drop down menu in the upper right hand corner with your name on it.
Basic information holds your location. The city is write-in so you can put wherever you like, including places that don't exist. Zip code isn't necessary. Please make sure that even for child profiles, the date of birth makes them 18. This is also where you can set your relationship.
About Me holds the species box, for letting others know what your character is. Were, dream hunter, vampire, demon, human, etc. Sexual orientation, as well as a text box to add more information for people to learn more about you.
Details is where you will find the confirmation of being an adult that pops up. Until this is checked and updated, you will not be able to update anything else in the profile section.
Your Profile now has sections to share your interests in the Interests section. This is for those of you who wanted to highlight your movies, TV shows, music, favorite authors, etc, the way you did at the "other" place. Hopefully you all like this new feature, and it puts you more on familiar footing.
You will NOT be able to save your profile until you've sorted the mandatory items.
These are marked with an asterisk in the settings.
Basic Information- Location, Date of Birth, Gender.

RPL has introduced a new feature for the site, Permalinks. Beneath each item in the feed, you should now see a new addition: PERMALINK. You can open the feed item in a new tab by clicking it, then bookmark/favorite that page in your browser. Use your bookmarks/favorites to keep track of your ongoing RPs, things you want to save, etc. You can copy the link from PERMALINK and share that anywhere. On a computer, this is usually done by right clicking and selecting "copy link". You can then paste the link into a status post, an email, a comment, anything. On mobile, try a long press on the link to copy the URL. Same to paste it.
Status posts are not considered "true" content to the site's script. If you have something you're working on that you want to save, please post it as a blog. This includes group/page posts. Blogs are the safest way to post your writing here. We are working on a way to save writing here for people to archive, but it will be ONLY for blogs. Take the time while we're working on figuring out the export function to start saving your content as blogs so you'll be able to make use of it.
Sometimes the site goes down randomly. We have a large, active site, and if bandwidth gets too strained, it can cause a temporary bit of downtime. We suggest writing in Notepad/Word, or even wordcounter.net first and copying/pasting into RPL. We'd hate to have someone lose a great post just because the network timed out as they submitted.
Here on RPL you can upload a profile photo in two different ways. Top upper right, it shows your name. Clicking that brings a dropdown menu that says "Edit Profile Picture". You can also click the default face and "Change Picture" pops up. If the profile photo turns to a white bar, please download the photo to your computer or device, and then re-upload to the site. We are using a CDN server and occasionally there are odd glitches which make it fail to "grab" the image and it just needs added again so it can be re-cached. Profile photos work best around 300x300 pixels.
Your profile sections are listed in the left hand menu once you visit your own profile.
Wall- Your profile wall, including a highlight of everything you have posted.
Info- Your profile info you edited in “Edit Profile”, as well as all the groups you JOINED.
Blogs- Any blogs you set as visible to EVERYONE will be shown here.
Events- Any events you set as visible to EVERYONE will be shown here.
Friends- Your friend's list is visible here, to those you've allowed to see it in Privacy settings.
Pages/Groups- Any page/group you FOUNDED go here. Any you admin will be in Info.
Photos- Where you add your photos and create your photo albums.
Privacy and account settings can be accessed from the upper right of the page. Click "Account" to access these. In privacy settings, please leave ALL notifications set to "NO". The site automatically sends site notifications. That section is for email notifications, you will get thousands of emails, we WILL be marked as spam. Currently some notifications, such as page invitations can't be turned off. We're looking into that, but this will cut down on most of them.
Comments and posts are disappearing - Please note that photos and statuses not put in their proper places, IE albums or blogs, can occasionally disappear when cache rotates out. To stop this, put them where they belong.
What kind of profiles can we have here? - We welcome everyone here. Whether you are a book-based character, an original character, a book writer, or a fan who wants to keep reading their favorite people, you belong here. It is your choice however, on whether you provide a real name or a character name. Or even what information you want to add to your profile. It is all up to your personal preference and what you are comfortable with. One solution many have used is to have a "real" profile to interact as a fan, and a "writing" profile for their characters. There is no limit to profiles you can create, but each must have a separate email/account.
I just joined. Why can't I do anything? - Accounts have limited permissions in the beginning. You will be automatically upgraded to the full user group as soon as you upload a profile photo. Again, yes, it's that important here. If you want to be able to use most of the site, you need to add one. If you are getting page not found re-directs while trying to do something, and don't have a profile photo, admins will simply tell you to upload one. We can't fix the redirect without you having a profile photo.
**PLEASE NOTE- Changes to profile information can take time to process through as cache flushes and refills. Please be patient. This can take up to 3 hours in some cases.
This includes name and relationship changes!**
